School Assembly Performances
Performing artists from a wide range of cultures are available for in-school performances. Most performances range from forty-five minutes to one hour and have an interactive component. A few of our performances are available virtually as pre-recorded assemblies. Available from October 23 - 28, 2023 is Indigenous Voices featuring Meskwaki/Dine artist Larry Yazzie. In-person assemblies are eligible for the Student Ticket Subsidy Grant of the Tennessee Arts Commission.
New Virtual Assembly: One World, Many Journeys
One World, Many Journeys brings an ensemble of artists from diverse cultures that will engage students in rhythmic travels that showcase the commonalities we all share as we trace our journeys and those of our ancestors. We begin in The Motherland, the continent of Africa. We call Africa our Mother because it is believed that most of our stories begin here. On this journey, we will trace two migration patterns: North from Africa into Asia and Europe and West from Africa to The Americas. The production will underscore the commonalities of traditions from the African diaspora, The Americas, and Asia. Students will experience the strength of belonging to one beautiful global family as we travel the world during this program, taking note of the commonalities: the patterns and colors, the shells and trade beads; the rhythms and rhymes, the very essence of Life and her stories.
Other assemblies that are offered virtually:
Rhythms of West Africa
Rhythms of the Afro Latin Diaspora
Rhythms of Life
Jataka Tales & More
Karuna Shakti
Festivals of Light
And coming soon:
Black Dance in America
