ENGLISH COUNTRY DANCING MONDAYS @ 7:00 PM
$3/adult
English Country Dancing is the most stately ancestor of all contra dancing. It dates all the way back to the 17th century and continues today with new dances being written using dance figures Henry VIII would have been familiar with! Remember Keira Knightly in “Pride and Prejudice?” That’s the flavor: playful, energetic dances and more elegant, leisurely ones, too. An excellent opportunity for beginners, but experienced dancers are welcome. Cost: $2-3 per evening to cover hall rental. To register, please click here to email Ed and Melissa Wilkinson In-person classes are temporarily suspended. |

$20 DROP-IN; $60/MONTH FOR SATURDAY ONLY; $80/MONTH FOR TUESDAY/THURSDAY CLASSES; $100/MONTH FOR ANY COMBINATION OF CLASSES
Classes explore the music, history and physical movements of Capoeira, a martial art developed by individuals who came to Brazil from Africa during the transatlantic slave trade. It is believed that they disguised their martial art as a dance (i.e. capoeira) and eventually used it to help escape from slavery. Led by instructors, Professor Eme Eme, or Spidey Cannon, each class will teach basic and advanced capoeira movements and concepts at a pace tailored to suit each student. Students of all ages and levels of skill are welcome to attend. Please wear comfortably fitting clothes that will allow a range of movement. Please note that Capoeria is performed barefoot. And don't forget to come prepared for a workout! To register, please click here. |
