LINE BREAKS CELEBRATED 20 YEARS IN DECEMBER 2022!!!
Due to health and other family issues, the event was postponed until DECEMBER 2023!
OH NO!!! We need to postpone again until May 3, 2024 so that the series founder, Thandiwe, can join us!
Line Breaks, founded in 2002 by poet and visual artist Thandiwe Shiphrah, is one of Nashville's oldest community-based poetry series, dedicated to fostering community by building bridges of understanding between people of diverse cultures and featuring many local, regional and national poets of color. Line Breaks supports both emerging and renowned poets and has provided Nashville audiences with exception opportunities to engage with their work. To learn more about our Line Breaks Literary Reading Series, check out this video, A Portrait of Line Breaks, created by Thandiwe Shiphrah and Daniel Arite.

What's happening in National Poetry Month?
April 19 and 20, 2024 - A fun visit by author, designer, lyricist, poet, and weaver of tales, Colleen Anderson. On Friday evening at 7:30 pm, Colleen will be reading and sharing stories, including those on the storytelling power of quilts. To keep with the quilting theme, we will have an exhibit by the Zuri Quilting Guild.
On Saturday morning at 9 am, Colleen will be offering a writing workshop titled Story to Poem: Turning Personal Memories into Lyric Poetry. After her workshop, grab one of our boxed lunches and board the tour bus we have rented to take us to the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky.
This weekend is part of our Three Roots of Appalachia project, made possible with partial support from Humanities Tennessee, an independent affiliate of National Endowment for the Humanities.
Fees: The Friday reading is free, but donations are greatly appreciated. The writing workshop is $30. The field trip to the museum is $35. The entire two days - reading, workshop, boxed lunch, field trip to the National Quilt Museum - is $50.
