Throughout the month of May, through June 3, we will be offering several opportunities to study dance, percussion, cultural information and capoeira with special visiting artists from Brazil, Mestre Gildo Valu and Fabio Barros.

Join us for our annual Summer Multicultural Arts Institute for Teachers. Call 615-292-3023 or email us at globaleducationcenter@juno.com to register or for additional information and a full conference schedule. New this year will be a special three-day Brazil intensive taught by visiting artist Mestre Gildo Valu, who will focus on drum, dance, cultural, historical and culinary traditions as well as capoeira. Additional artists will present workshops on Flamenco traditions; Afro-Peruvian and Inca traditions; West African dance and drum traditions. Teachers enrolled for all three days can also join us for our three-day Latin Dance Festival as part of their tuition ($100 for the full conference and festival; $75 for Center members; or $25/day for just the conference workshops.

Fabio Barros is an amazing, highly acclaimed belly dancer who will be sharing his talents with us in a dynamic two-hour workshop, followed by a farewell hafla for all of the teaching artists involved in our weekend festival. It will be pot-luck style, so please bring some goodies – and your dancing feet – so we can send them off in style! And yes, we know that belly dancing is a bit of a stretch for a Latin dance festival, but hey – it’s FABIO!

Global Education Center is excited to announce its 13th annual Latin Dance Festival for June 1, 2 and 3, 2012! We will be welcoming Rick and Lynda Wilson of Atlanta back for some Argentine Tango workshops, and we have a couple of new guest artists this year – Cindy Bleck of Kansas City with Flamenco, Maestre Gildo Valu from Brazil with Capoeira, and the fabulous Fabio Barros of Zumba fame for Afro Brazilian dance, Samba and a special Belly Dance workshop to close out the festival.
