While in residence, he will be offering one community drum workshop on Friday, July 8 from 7 to 9 pm.

We first brought Bolokada to Nashville in 2000 when we sponsored the visas for Les Percussions de Guinee for their North American tour. Our percussion director Shannon Holland enjoyed Bolokada on that visit and worked to bring him back to Nashville so that his young students, aged 7 to 25, could have the opportunity to study with this young djembe master.

We thank the teachers in New York City who inspired our founding director, Ellen Gilbert, to create the Global Education Center as a place where they could come study in the summers as well as Erika Gerth, former director of Westminster Young Children’s School, for urging Ellen to expand the reach of Passport to Understanding to more schools.
