 CHINESE SUMMER CAMP CULTURAL EXCHANGE – July 11 – August 5, 2013
Once again, we welcome 26 students and 2 teachers from Shijiazhuang Foreign Language School of ShiJia Zhuang City, HeBei Province for a fun experience in the diverse dance and music forms offered at the Global Education Center, as well as a week at an outdoor camp, visits to area high schools and universities, and a bit of site-seeing in both Tennessee and other parts of the country. Below are some photos of our fun times last summer. This cultural exchange is organized by our Chinese traditional dance teacher and her husband, Shaolu and Ross McLaren and is always a very positive experience.

Saturday Classes for Youth

Djembe drumming beginner II  for all ages with Shannon Holland – 11:45 $8 drop-in; $20/month)
Djembe drumming – youth performing troupe – 12:30pm $8 drop-in; $20/month
Afro Cuban drumming with Josvany Cordero – 1:30pm $8 drop-in; $20/month
Capoeira for all ages with Michael Irvin – 2:30 $8 drop-in; $20/month ($15 for adults)

World Percussion for Young Children – Mondays at 4:30 pm $5/person (Ongoing)
ZAPATEADOS! Folkloric, Aztec and Flamenco dance for children – Wednesdays at 4:30 pm $5/child
Ballet for Young Children – Saturdays at 1:00 pm $5/person
Classes for children are $5/class or $25/month/child for unlimited classes.  A great deal for some great classes!

Birthday Parties for Children
We have a vast array of cultural birthday parties for children, including our most popular ones – Zumbatomic, African, Polynesian. To see an entire list, please visit Multicultural Birthday Parties. Fees for parties are $150 for the first 10 children; $5 – $10 for each additional child, depending on the number of artists involved in party.

Chinese Culture Camp – Summer –
Weekly camps  featuring Chinese music, dance, crafts, language and more, taught by resident artist, Shaolu McLaren and visiting artist, Xu Xiao Qi ($200/week; $50 deposit; 8:30 am to 5 pm; aftercare available until 6 pm for an additional $40/week)

Summer Multicultural Arts Camp for Children and YouthWeekly camps during June and July for children and youth featuring music, dance, crafts, games, sports and foods from around the world as well as daily Spanish language classes ($150/week; $25 application fee; 9:00 am to 4:00 pm; before (8:30 am) and aftercare until 5:30 pm available for an additional $25/week)

Roots, Rhythm and Rhyme
Ongoing classes and workshops in percussion, poetry and percussive dance for individuals, schools and community organizations

Zumbatomic
– Classes and workshops for children and youth in this popular dance fitness program featuring African, Latin, Caribbean and Hip Hop moves to World Music – Zumbatomic birthday parties are fun, fun, fun!

La Voix du Djembe
– Highly successful program offering weekly classes, workshops and residencies for community organizations and schools in addition to the in-house program offered at the Global Education Center, directed by the Center’s percussion director, Shannon Holland

Little Eagle Chinese Dance AcademyChinese traditional dance for children taught by Shaolu. Classes begin occur on Saturdays. Contact xiaolu_shu@yahoo.com.
